DBI Today: 49.6 (+1.5)

Donald Trump promised "economic D-Day" against Iran on Thursday, and oil markets took him seriously — crude jumped over 2.5% within hours. That single threat rippled through everything from petrol pumps to airline costs. Today's Daily Business Index, our single 0–100 score for how the global business world is faring, ticked up to 49.6, still just below the neutral 50 line that separates a healthy business climate from a strained one. The number moved only modestly, because for every worry — pricier oil, a stumbling US consumer — there was a genuine bright spot: American factories just posted their strongest reading in five years. Today was a tug-of-war, and neither side won by much.
