DBI Today: 53.3 (+2.3)

The chip stocks that triggered a global sell-off just days ago came roaring back on Tuesday, and this time the rally wasn't confined to Wall Street. Japan's Nikkei jumped over 3%, South Korea's Kospi surged more than 3.5%, and Chinese semiconductor shares bounced nearly 9% — a genuinely worldwide vote of confidence ahead of this week's Big Tech earnings. That coordinated relief rally is why the Daily Business Index, our daily 0-to-100 readout of global business health where 50 marks neutral, jumped to 53.3 today, a bigger-than-usual move. Underneath it, cooling US inflation and a strong start to earnings season added further support, even as oil stayed stubbornly close to $90 a barrel.
