For the first time in nearly two weeks, the skies over Iran stayed quiet — no announced American strikes for a second straight night, and reports of Omani-mediated talks gaining traction. That pause, combined with oil sliding back from its brief trip above $100 a barrel, gave markets room to breathe. The Daily Business Index, our daily 0-to-100 read on global business health where 50 is neutral, rose to 51.4. A wave of surprisingly strong economic activity data from the US, Europe, the UK and Japan did the rest of the heavy lifting, even as the hangover from a rough week of Big Tech earnings kept the Nasdaq, the index tracking America's largest technology companies, from fully joining the party.
