DBI Today: 53.0 (+4.0)

A day after the Dow suffered its worst session since April 2025, Wall Street roared back — and Microsoft did most of the driving. The Daily Business Index, our daily 0–100 reading of global business health where 50 is neutral, jumped to 53.0. Microsoft's blowout earnings added roughly $450 billion to its market value in a single day, the biggest one-day gain by any company on record, and dragged the rest of the beaten-down chip sector up with it. But the rebound sits awkwardly next to a genuinely troubling economic print: US growth badly missed expectations while prices grew far faster than forecast — a combination economists call stagflation, when a slowing economy and rising prices show up at the same time.
